Protect Life

If you are like me and sometimes read a well-known verse with little thought to it's significance, please take a moment to read the verse below with intention.

For you created my inmost being;

you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you

when I was made in the secret place.

When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

your eyes saw my unformed body.

All the days ordained for me were written in

 your book before one of them came to be (Psalm 139:13-16).

How much do we not weigh the weight of these words- what they mean to our lives and to precious babies? It's Sanctity of life month. The right to life of innocent children is my soapbox. I realize I have stood here once already this month (here), and yet, here I am again holding my ground on an important topic.

I want to share with you some verses, that I have never heard associated with protecting life, but that struck a chord with me along that topic.  

Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: “Every boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.” Now a man of the house of Levi married a Levite woman, and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months. But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile. His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him (Exodus 1:22; 2:1-4).

As I was readying these five verses, I was thinking about the threat against babies of our day, and the similarities that exist with the threat against the Hebrew babies. In legalizing abortion, our world is sentencing to death the innocent babies who are not protected by those who are suppose to love them. Moses had someone to protect him. She made a basket of papyrus, with tar and pitch, to protect him in the Nile. Is that not what we do when we stand up with our voices, our hands, and our feet to seek justice for lives lived in the wombs of women? We step up with a good dose of love that says I'll protect you. Although, I'm a little curious to how well my papyrus basket is holding up in the waters of this issue. Did I coat it well with tar and pitch? Am I giving my all as someone who cares?
 
I can't sit back and watch lives be taken. Okay, I can. In fact, that would be the easy thing to do, but I don't want to do that. I would rather make a papyrus basket, well coated with tar and pitch, for the threatened innocence. God had big plans for Moses, and He provided a way of protection. The same is true for innocent babies today. We are one of the ways of protection provided for the innocent, but it's up to us to decide if we are up to the challenge.
 
Ways you can help?
 
1) Learn the facts. We can't be a voice if we don't know the details. There are great resources all over the web-seriously.
 
2) Give to your local pregnancy center. Find out their needs. Then with your time, your money, or other donations meet one of those needs.
 
3) Use your voice. You have one. Use it to protect life.
 
4) Pray. This one is the best and should be done in junction with any of the other three, or alone. Make sure this one is never left out of the equation.
 
I love talking about life. It is sacred indeed. But I don't talk nearly enough. In fact, I fail in this area. You know, the one of protecting life. It's in my head and my heart. It needs to be on my tongue, at my finger tips, and under my feet.
