I Know a Girl...

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed (Luke 4:18).

I know a girl who has taken the call to "Follow Me"  seriously. She has answered His call to set the captives free. Makes me smile like a proud mama, or maybe it's more like a proud sister. No matter, I'm smiling all the same. Laura Hamilton is her name. We go back a few years. Our lives intersected the summer of 2007 when we "happened" to be on a team of Counselors together at Trinity Woods Day Camp. Only then we weren't "Jennifer" and "Laura", we were better known as "Strudel" and "Gecko". Oh good times- hot days, loud kiddies, crazy adventures in the woods, afternoons by the creek, and hours roaming the woods. It's amazing the camaraderie that is built between counselors on hot summer days. When the days get a little too long, your hope is that counselor friend standing 50 feet away with her own group giving you a "knowing" smile. Laura, was good at being that friend.

Ah makes me smile
Laura, Gecko, is now on a new adventure. In her obedience, she is walking like Christ in His care of the captives. She is headed to Mumbai, India to work to end Human Trafficking. It's been amazing to watch (through facebook and her blog) God's hand in this adventure and Laura's obedience to His call. It's been years since I've seen Laura, and until recently, I didn't even know what was going on in her life. Now, God has blessed me with the opportunity to reconnect with Laura. (There are downsides to Facebook, but where would we be without opportunities to reconnect from miles away?)

In one month, Laura will be packed and set to board a plane to India. One month. It's a exciting, and a bit terrifying, I'm sure. Obviously with a departure day approaching, there are last minute details that need to be ironed out. But I'll let Laura tell you all about that...

You can read her latest post here, and explore her blog a little. You won't regret it.

Because I know you are dying to see, I am posting this picture of the two of us. But first, you have to realize that this was five years ago, and I was about twenty pounds heavier. {I may regret this decision}

Love her!

Have a beautiful rest of your Monday!

In His Name,
Jennifer

I am so happy you introduced Laura to us! When I got my last paycheck I really felt like I was suppose to(was told to:)set aside some money for a missionary. I had no idea for who, but just knew what God was asking. Not a lot by any means, but anyhow, when I went to Laura's page and then to Rahab's Rope I knew without a doubt that she is the one the money is for. Isn't it cool how God works and ties us all together?
