Fear: No Respecter of Persons

What do I fear?

Oh boy. Are you sure you want to know? Okay. But I'm going to need you to lean in close...closer...Closer.

Yep, Failure. It's paralyzing. I wonder, Will I move past my mistakes? or What about my future failures? or Will I always fail?. Torturing questions such as the ones above make any form of movement almost unfathomable. Common sense says that failure is typically perceived. So, I make feeble efforts to take steps forward, only to be attacked to the point of despair by my fears. They're pretty convinced we'll fail. You know how fears are.

Your fears may be different, or maybe they're varying degrees of failure. Doesn't matter. Fear is fear. It's no respecter of persons. You don't believe me? You have one of those friends, right? The one who's miss suave; she has no need for fear because she's "got this".  Are you that woman? Maybe, you're the fear consumed woman; there's no need in hiding it because everyone knows anyway. Or like me, you're in the middle. No one believes "you've got this" , but they don't know the fear you face internally.

I'll repeat: fear is no respecter of persons.

They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.” Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” Mark 14:32-36 (emphasis mine)

Jesus had countless reasons to be filled with sorrow that night in Gethsemane. Do you think maybe He was scared at some point in His sorrowing? Yet, He prayed, not what I will, but what you will.

I think we have an example to follow...He prayed. He sought. He sorrowed.

Fear is no respecter of persons, but neither is our Lord. (James 2:1-13)

In His Name,
Jennifer

"He prayed. He sought. He sorrowed" beautiful reminder... Jesus knows first hand all the fears in life we face and gave us His example and strength to overcome them. Great post Jennifer!
Blessings, Danise

Jennifer,
I fear a similar thing. I call it my fear of being stupid. Thank you for pointing out that fear is no respecter of persons. I sometimes think I am extra flawed because I do have so many fears and worries.

And thanks for also pointing out that Jesus is not a respecter of persons. We are already victorious in Him!

I look forward to being in this study with you.
