Nothing

Courtesy Photobucket
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

Am I gaining more than nothing?

Our spiritual lives could be rockin'. Your faith may be a faith to be reckoned with, but if your missing the key ingredient love, you have nothing.

...Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself' (Matthew 22:37-39).

C'mon, ladies and gents, we know this stuff. We know. Do we live like it? I don't know where you stand on this, but I'm struggling.

When I compare myself to the list in chapter 13 (Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trust, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:5-7), I'm guilty.

Love:

is patient, is kind
does not envy, does not boast, does not delight in evil
is not proud, is not rude, is not self-seeking, is not easily angered
keeps no record of wrongs
rejoices with the truth
always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perserveres

I think we have a misconception that love is easy. Wrong. It's very hard. So, throw the idea that you can "love" on your own out the window. In loving, we have to commit our struggle to love to Him.

Lastly, Love saved me. The love of a Savior led to the salvation of my soul.

...God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).

Love. I struggle. Am I alone?

In His Love,
Jennifer

You are not alone. I think the reason a whole chapter in the bible is dedicated to love is because it is a struggle. Thank you for this reminder today.
I'd love you to link this up to my blog hop today for On Your Heart Tuesdays! www.shandaoakleyinspires.com

Brandee, you struggle too? Hallulujah! Christians struggle with a lot of thngs, but love seems to be one thing that everyone struggles with to some degree, and it's the greastest commandment. Interesting. :)
