"Seek"ing "Meekness"

**For all my followers this will be a repeat, 'cause {oops} I posted a week early. :)**

Seek you the Lord, all you meek of the earth, who have kept his commands; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be you shall be hidden in the day of the Lord's anger (Zephaniah 2:3).

Last year my One Word for the year was seek. God began to lay the word seek on my heart around the same time that Bonnie- Faith Barista wrote a post about having One Word for the year. I thought it was a little unique at first to park on a single word as focus for a whole year. But God was so persistent with laying seek on my heart that I decided to take the challenge, and I focused on seeking God. This year, as each hard thing hit my life, I turned my attention to seeking God. Of course seeking God is never a bad idea. I was a little surprised, when each time I had to walk through something hard, that the word seek came to mind. You can read my Seek posts from 2011 here, here, here, here, and here.

Only God knew how much I would need to remember to seek Him this year. I want you guys to realize I'm not saying I just chose this word and made it work for my year. I knew that seeking was something He was asking me to focus on in 2011, not because I shouldn't seek Him every year of my life, but because that was something I needed to be specifically mindful of this year.

Anywho, it's almost a new year and I've been praying, "God, can I have a new word this year? That was fun". *smile* For a while I thought I just wouldn't have a word this year, but  since I started reading As Silver Refined by Kay Arthur, Meekness has been on my heart. I know that I struggle with submitting to God's will, and bending low when I would rather stand with my head high. That's how Meekness became my word for 2012.

I have to admit learning Meekness doesn't sound like much fun. In fact, it sounds hard. Want to see?

Meekness:

1. humbly patient or docile, as under provocation( 1. the act of provoking. 2. something that incites, instigates, angers, or irritates. from others)

2. overly submissive or compliant; spiritless; tame.

3. Obsolete . gentle; kind.

See what I mean? Can you imagine what that would look like in a person's life? Learning to be Meek would turn my world upside down. It will require bending lower, submitting more, and getting over me. Eek.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time (1 Peter 5:6).

I think it will worth it. You can feel free to remind me of that statement should you ever find me whining here.

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5).

Do you have a One Word that you are focusing on for 2012? If so, I would love to hear (see) what it is.

Today I'm praying for you as 2012 approaches. Only God knows what each of us will face this year- that's a good thing. I'm not sure how I would have handle this year if I had known everything I would face a head of time. So I'm praying for grace to cover each of us no matter what we walk through in 2012.

In His Name,
Jennifer

Ooh, that's a hard one, Jennifer. ;-) But God will bless you through it, I'm certain of it. I chose "humility" one year and it was a TOUGH year, but a year of many valuable lessons.

This year I'm choosing "Venture" (or rather, I hope GOD has chosen it for me! because it's not one I would choose for myself).

I'll look forward to hearing more about meekness from you as the year goes on.
